My Weekend: Ranch, Wedding, Barn Door!

Although I have been hacking up a lung and basically a zombie all week, I did not let that stop me from enjoying my weekend plans! We had a lot on the calendar this weekend, and I refused to allow my terrible cold to get me down.

Spruce Mountain Ranch

This year was the first year I was able to attend the “Base of the Year” party. Aka – a work party for being the best flight attendant base city out of our airline. This is determined on attendance, sick calls, customer letters and other recognition.

The 2015 location was Spruce Mountain Guest Ranch. A practically unreal-gorgeous ranch in Larkspur, Colorado. (New to me!) It was a bit of a drive to get down there, but once we got off the highway, the views became more and more beautiful.

My husband was my guest, and we met my mother-in-law (also a flight attendant) and sister in law down there. We headed straight to the outdoor games – a family favorite – ladderball! We also played bocce ball. (It was the flight attendants against the non flight attendants for both games – they got whooped!)

After playing winning some lawn games we wanted to check out the paddle boats before it got too dark! There was a number of boats ready for us to use on a small pond on the property. We (mostly my husband) paddled us around the pond while we enjoyed the colorful sunset. Sorta, romantic, eh?

Then, being the prankster that he is, got WAY too close to the fountain, just to test the waters. Next, in the spirit of competition, he declared a race to the other side of the pond. We lost!

We worked up quite an appetite. And we were ready for dinner! I was pleasantly surprised there were options for me at the buffet! A nice looking vegetable platter and prime rib! However, I had to avoid the fried mac and cheese, cowboy quesadillas and the bread rolls. The snack table was also almost completely off-limits.

How I manage hunger on adventures... Since I am dairy free and gluten free, it is important to plan ahead when I am so busy, so I don’t starve! Blue Diamond Almonds are a great solution!  Luckily for me, I packed my own snacks, Blue Diamond Almonds. I keep them in my purse, so I don’t go hungry! While everyone else is enjoying passed appetizers of filled-pastry things and cheese, I can whip out my own snack. These nuts tie me over and keep me satisfied while maintaining my gluten free and dairy free lifestyle.

And for dessert? While others were enjoying smores, cakes and brownies (drenched in hot chocolate and caramel sauces)? I ate plenty of burnt marshmallows. Slightly black crispy on the outside, pure deliciousness.

Beyond celebrating with my co-workers for our base-of-the-year party, we went to a wedding, built a barn door, and joined the neighbors at a house warming party. We had a lot on the agenda, and it was a great weekend full of food, friends and fun!

What fun adventures did you do this weekend?
