My fun American flag tank top is from Zaful. They have a neat selection of inexpensive clothing and accessories!

4thJuly-Block-Party

Hi everyone!

I thought I would share about my personal life a bit in this post!

For those of you that stalk follow me closely, you know we moved into a new-build community last year. The houses around us have been in the building process for the last year and our neighborhood is coming together!

Since most of the homes are now complete, we thought it would be a nice idea to organize a neighborhood block party! To start the process, we organized a planning meeting with the neighbors from our street. (We absolutely have the BEST neighbors imaginable). At the meeting we dolled out tasks – like who would be in charge of the PA and music, the utensils and plates, the games and all the way down to the ice.

We gladly signed up for organizing the rental of the bounce house, snow cone machine and party grill. (My husband was insanely excited about these).

We made flyers and got the word out by hanging them on the mailboxes and posting the event details on Next Door

Each day more and more neighbors signed up to join us for the July 4th Neighborhood Block Party. It looked like we were going to have quite the event!

The day of the party was a little hectic, setting up, gathering all the tables, chairs, tents and filling up coolers. Luckily, the whole street worked together and we made short work of it. (Seriously, BEST neighbors)

The street party started at 3PM when it was a cool 93 degrees outside. Thank goodness we had these tents for a little shade! Most people hung out under them until it cooled down with some cloud coverage! (Thank you clouds!)

The party had festive music, delicious food and lots of fun. We also had a wonky – but very popular among the kids -snow cone machine. This is my husband manning the machine, making dozens of snow cones. My sister-in-law was there to help too! It was a big job!

Here are all the kids lined up for a snow cone!

I loved trying yellow watermelon for the first time – YELLOW watermelon! Have you ever heard of such a thing? The most popular dessert by far was this impressive cast iron smores bake!

Of course there was the most American dessert of all time, apple pie (okay, a few apple pies)  and this crazy fun firework monster thing cake!

… and can’t forget the Mexican street corn. So. Yum.

It was a blast meeting new neighbors that just moved in (within the month!) and neighbors who have established the area for years before (we like to call them the old-builds). Don’t tell them though!Sister-Pic

This is me and my little sister-in-law (also one of my best friends). I love spending time with her, and got so lucky that she is in my life!

At one point during the party, the kids were all busy having a water balloon fight, so some of the adults staked claim to the bounce house. Including, me. This was the first time I experienced the fun of a bounce house, and I am glad I did. I’m telling you, these things need to be in corporation parking lots! What stress relievers! I was laughing the entire time – it was such a release! I think I added a few months to my life!

As soon as it started getting dark, the party diminished down to about 15 of us. We cleaned up and trekked along the trail to an open space to watch the neighboring city firework shows. These are the folks that lasted until dark:

Overall, my Fourth of July was a big success – and so was the party. This weekend, I had so much joy in my heart. Family and friendship is truly what life is about. Getting together and sharing a good time with those you love. <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
