Life is always a little hectic, but it was just a little more hectic earlier this year. That’s because we were house shopping and finally found our dream home!
My husband and I bought our first home 5 years before. We put an offer on that home after meeting the realtor and checking out 6 homes – all in one day. To say the least, we were naïve and didn’t exactly know what we were getting in our first home. We were happy with the house, the yard and the location to the city… but the neighborhood wasn’t the greatest.
We made the best of that house by planting a flourishing garden, raspberry bush and peach tree. We also adopted a dog in that home, and she brought us utter joy. We learned lessons about caring for a first home and did our best at trying to fix things our self.
But we were ready for a place that fit us more.
Just a few things left to pack. We’re pooped!
You know how house shopping goes – nerve-racking, frustrating, overwhelming… and fun?
We had a wonderful realtor (which if you live in Colorado, I highly recommend her – just ask) who was patient with us and eager to meet all of our (sometimes wacky) requests. She was a blessing, and helped us to find the home of our dreams.
Little did we know it would be a new build!
It so happened that we got a screaming deal on a new build community (that’s because we were the second family to buy). And ever since we bought, the houses in the neighborhood have been increasing in value, so we got really lucky that we got in when we did!
Standing in our (soon to be) family room!
Buying a new build was a crazy experience. We got to semi-customize it to fit our style and our tastes. We went crazy in the design center choosing tile, flooring and counter tops. But when we saw the price tag, we had to make some concessions! After some tough elimination decisions, we were able to stay within our adjusted budget.
We were also able to save some money by doing some things ourselves – installing ceiling fans, installing speakers, installing garage door opener, painting, backyard landscaping, patio, kitchen backsplash, etc. (these post will come in time). I know, we have a lot of projects to do! Anyone want to help?
Anyway. If you are wondering what’s new with me, a lot! There is a lot of work to be done to a new home and I will be sure to keep you updated on the progress. I am hoping to review a few products a long the way to help me as well. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
That’s all for now. I’ve still got a lot of unpacking to do. Not to mention organizing! Cheers!
