San Diego is a gorgeous city. I love downtown, the bay, and the adorable communities and neighborhoods. I could spend all my life in the hipster North Park – eating at the diners and sipping chai tea at the quaint cafes. I could be entertained forever in the Gaslamp Quarter with all the rich nightlife, festivals, markets and events. SD, if I could afford you, you’d have yourself a new inhabitant!
But as much as I love you, the people really make me question your city.
It just seems when I fly there the people are too needy, too self-absorbed, and outrageously entitled. And it is not just me, others like me feel the same way!
Case in point – today we had a mother of 2 decide that she was above the FAA rules. The FAA has set as a standard in the air travel industry, I am sorry, but you have to follow them. When we asked her to buckle her children, she said her children "Don’t like seatbelts."
Errrrrrrk, I stopped in my tracks. Say what?
Yes. Indeed. Fully serious. Not a joke.
Her kids don’t like seatbelts.
"Well ma’am, I am sorry, your children need to be buckled while in their seats before this flight can take off."
Intro major meltdown (both mother and children).
As the meltdown is happening, I am thinking to myself, Really, do your children not wear seatbelts ever in the car? You are willing to risk their lives over the fact your kids think they have a RIGHT to wear or not to wear a seatbelt? Since when was it up to them to decide to follow or not to follow the LAW?
So after a fight to get them into seatbelts (oh the torture!) we could finally take off. Yes, 15 minutes late – the other 160 passengers were all waiting on YOU to get this plane a’moving.
Selfish.
You forgot the world didn’t revolve around you?
Other people on this flight have plans for the rest of the day. But because you are obviously more important that everyone else, you are making them all wait – denying them the right to carry on with their lives.
Conclusion: I don’t have a conclusion for San Diego. I will never understand some of the people that live there. In fact, since this flight I have written TWO more posts about crazy people in San Diego! They will be published in the next few weeks.
